The Angel Oak is a Southern live oak tree located in Angel Oak Park, in Charleston, South Carolina, on Johns Island, one of South Carolina's Sea Islands. It is estimated to be in excess of 1400 years old, stand 65 ft (20 m) tall, measure 9 ft (2.7 m) in diameter, and shade with its crown an area of 17,000 square feet (1,600 m2). Its longest limb is 89 feet (27 m) in length. The tree and surrounding park have been owned by the city of Charleston since 1991.

The Angel Oak is thought to be one of the oldest living organisms east of the Mississippi River. Angel Oak stands on part of Abraham Waight's 1717 land grant.[citation needed] The oak derives its name from the Angel estate, although local folklore told of stories of ghosts of former slaves would appear as angels around the tree. The tree has become a significant tourist attraction.

It has survived countless hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, and human interference. Angel Oak was damaged severely during Hurricane Hugo in 1989 but has since recovered.

Acorns from the Angel Oak have grown to produce authentic direct-offspring trees. Live oaks generally remain short in proportion to their outward growth.

Tree growing around a rock. Some trees grow anywhere

Every time we go to Aguirre Springs we look up at the mountains and see this tree way the hell up there on top of a small mountain and talk about hiking up to it some day. Well no one else would go with me but I finally did it. It's not that far but is super steep and there are no trails. Bushwhacking through cactus and mesquite and climbing up large boulders for about an hour with a bunch of camera gear bouncing and swinging all over the place.

I'm actually standing about 10 to 15 feet away from the tree on top of some large boulders at a cliff's edge. I couldn't really get any farther away from the tree without falling off the cliff. This is a stitched HDR pano shot with an old 28mm Minolta lens on my Sony A7. It consists of two rows of bracketed images 5 across.

Those rare moments when the sun appears as a disc through the fog...

I think that I shall never see

A billboard lovely as a tree.

Perhaps, unless the billboards fall,

I'll never see a tree at all.

Joshua Tree National Park, California.

I thought it was great to see some purple lighting on the tree trunk here. The bulbs were placed at the bottom in which projected towards to the top of the tree. The place I was at here is usually a busy spot for people who enjoy food and drinks. I wanted to make sure the primary focus was on the purple tree truck. Within this photo is a nice perspective taken from a 50mm.

Every year I welcome the blooms on our choke cherry tree around Mother's Day. The whole tree is a mass of pink outside my living room window. Not only are they dainty but it is cheery too!
